Independent Report – The situation surrounding community organizations, known as ormas, in Indonesia has recently attracted significant attention. In response to these concerns, Idrus Marham, the Deputy Chairman of Golkar, has voiced his opinion on the matter.
According to Idrus, ormas should align with and actively contribute to the nation’s development by supporting progress toward a better future. He emphasized that these organizations must work in harmony with the government to accelerate the country’s growth and prosperity.
Idrus stated, “On one hand, ormas should become partners of the government in accelerating national development.” However, he also made it clear that any individuals within these organizations who cause trouble should be dealt with firmly.
He referenced a statement from the Minister of Investment, Rosan Roeslani, who pointed out that some ormas have acted disruptively. Creating discomfort for business people and damaging the investment climate. This behavior especially affects foreign investors, who are discouraged from investing in Indonesia due to fears of extortion.
“According to Minister Rosan, this stance must be firm because those on the ground are directly experiencing how certain individuals. Under the name of organizations, have pressured and extorted entrepreneurs and even the general public,” Idrus stressed. He added that such actions significantly hinder development and deter foreign investors.
Supporting these views, Idrus expressed Golkar’s full backing for measures taken by the National Police Chief. General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to take decisive action against problematic ormas. This support is aligned with instructions from the party’s chairman, Bahlil Lahadalia.

Idrus stated, “This is not only about individuals misusing the name of an organization to commit extortion and coercion, but it requires firm action.” He warned against allowing the state to be undermined by those behaving like thugs or criminals. Emphasizing the importance of strong enforcement.
He concluded his statement with a firm declaration, “The country must never be defeated by thugs!”
In parallel, the government has established an Integrated Task Force to handle acts of thuggery and disruptive community organizations. This unit focuses on groups and behaviors that disturb public order and interfere with investment activities.
The Head of the Presidential Communications Office, Hasan Nasbi, explained that the task force specifically targets acts of thuggery that obstruct business operations. These criminal behaviors create fear among investors and discourage them from entering the Indonesian market.
“The government’s main target is the elimination of thuggery, particularly those that disrupt business processes. The presence of these threats causes investors to hesitate to invest here,” Hasan explained during a press briefing in Jakarta.
He further clarified that the task force’s approach does not specifically single out ormas, but rather any form of thuggery, whether carried out by individuals or organizations. The ultimate goal is to eradicate such illegal actions to foster a safe and attractive environment for business and investment.
In summary, Golkar, through its Deputy Chairman Idrus Marham, supports strict measures to ensure that community organizations operate constructively and contribute positively to Indonesia’s development. The party also stands firmly behind law enforcement efforts to eliminate any disruptive or criminal behavior under the guise of ormas activity.
This stance aligns with the government’s broader agenda to protect investors, improve the business climate, and maintain public order, creating conditions that encourage both domestic and foreign investment. Through these efforts, Indonesia aims to accelerate economic growth and strengthen national progress while safeguarding its citizens from intimidation and exploitation.
