Independent Report – President Prabowo Subianto has once again reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption in Indonesia. Speaking during the commemoration of International Workers’ Day at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Thursday, May 1, 2025, Prabowo declared his support for the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill by the House of Representatives (DPR RI).
“In our fight against corruption, I support the Asset Forfeiture Law. I fully support it,” Prabowo stated in his speech before thousands of workers gathered for the May Day event.
The President emphasized that corrupt individuals must return the assets they have stolen. He called on the workers in attendance to join him in the continued struggle against corruption and those who enrich themselves unlawfully at the expense of the public.
“It’s unfair for someone to steal and refuse to return the stolen assets. I’ll take them back. Do you agree? Shall we continue? Let’s carry on the fight against corruptors,” he added with strong conviction.
Prabowo acknowledged that eradicating corruption is not an easy task. Nonetheless, he pledged to do everything within his power to eliminate it from all government institutions. He addressed public officials directly, urging them to stop stealing from the people.
“Those of you in government institutions are paid by the people. I say: stop your corruption! Stop stealing public money immediately!” Prabowo declared firmly.
He also appealed to workers across the country to support efforts to safeguard the nation’s wealth. Prabowo promised strict law enforcement against anyone found guilty of stealing from the state.
“I have repeatedly said that I will enforce the law. Anyone who breaks the law and steals the nation’s wealth will be held accountable. That is my duty, that is the oath I took before the people of Indonesia and before Almighty God,” Prabowo concluded.

His speech was delivered during a major rally organized to celebrate International Workers’ Day 2025, an event that drew over 200,000 workers and their families to Monas. The gathering was organized by the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), led by its president, Said Iqbal, who also serves as the President of the Labor Party.
In a statement released on April 30, 2025, Iqbal shared that the celebration would not only feature political speeches but also cultural performances. Bands such as Tipe-X and Wali were invited to perform, reflecting the unity between the labor movement and Indonesian culture.
“May Day is a moment for workers to voice their hopes. It’s not just about demands, but also about offering a path to social justice for all citizens,” Iqbal said.
He outlined six main issues that represent the core demands of Indonesian workers this year. These include the elimination of outsourcing, the formation of a special task force to prevent layoffs, the implementation of fair wages, the protection of domestic workers through the ratification of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT), and the finalization of a new labor law that safeguards workers’ rights.
A key point in this year’s May Day demands is the immediate ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill, which aligns with the government’s commitment to combat corruption. According to Iqbal, these demands are essential to ensuring social fairness and justice for the working class.
“This is not just a celebration. It’s a platform to amplify the voices of workers and their fight for justice. The six issues reflect the real needs of Indonesian laborers,” he asserted.
The May Day celebration was not limited to Jakarta. Demonstrations and events took place simultaneously in more than 15 cities and regions across Indonesia. Over one million workers were expected to participate in places such as Surabaya, Semarang, Lampung, Medan, Palembang, Makassar, Batam, Cirebon, Serang, Bekasi, Tangerang, Gresik, Banjarmasin, Pontianak, and Balikpapan.
With a united voice, both the government and labor unions have made it clear that fighting corruption and improving workers’ rights must go hand in hand. The momentum created by May Day 2025 could mark a turning point in the nation’s efforts to promote transparency, justice, and prosperity for all.
