Independent Report – Majority of public in Indonesia increasingly expresses strong confidence in the Attorney General’s Office. Signaling a positive shift in trust toward the country’s legal institutions. This growing trust is reflected in the results of a recent national survey conducted by Indikator Politik Indonesia. Which shows that many citizens believe prosecutors are capable of effectively resolving high-profile and complex cases.
In his presentation, Burhanuddin explained that the alleged corruption case involving Pertamina has drawn significant public attention. He revealed that 70.5 percent of respondents were aware of the case. Of those, more than half expressed confidence that the Attorney General’s Office could fully resolve the matter. He delivered this statement during a virtual presentation of the survey findings titled “Public Trust in the Performance of State Institutions and Anti-Corruption Efforts” on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
The survey was conducted from May 17 to 20, 2025, using a telephone interview method. Respondents were selected using the Double Sampling technique, with a total of 1,286 participants proportionally distributed. The survey has a 95 percent confidence level and a margin of error of approximately 2.75 percent. It aimed to capture public perception of law enforcement institutions, particularly the Attorney General’s Office, in handling high-profile cases.
Besides the Pertamina case, the survey also highlighted public awareness of a bribery scandal involving the Head of the South Jakarta District Court. The official allegedly accepted bribes amounting to IDR 60 billion in connection with crude palm oil export permits. According to Burhanuddin, about 43.8 percent of Majority of Public respondents were aware of the case. Among them, 51.1 percent believed the Attorney General’s Office could thoroughly investigate and resolve the case.

Another notable finding from the survey was the rising level of public trust in the Attorney General’s Office compared to other law enforcement agencies. The Attorney General’s Office scored a 76 percent public trust rating. Making it the most trusted law enforcement body at present. This figure even surpasses the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), which historically held the highest trust levels among the public.
Burhanuddin noted that in the past three to four years, the Attorney General’s Office has consistently performed well in addressing major cases. He remarked that the institution has become more proactive in fighting corruption and has demonstrated real progress, which the public has clearly recognized. This, he added, is a key factor in the growing confidence in the institution.
He further stated that this shift in public perception is a result of tangible work carried out by the Attorney General’s Office in recent times. Its firm and transparent law enforcement efforts have made a positive impression on the public. Who now see the agency as not only responsive but also effective in resolving high-stakes cases.
Moreover, these survey findings serve as an important signal for other legal institutions to improve their transparency, professionalism, and integrity in carrying out their responsibilities. Public trust is a vital social asset for law enforcement bodies, especially in the context of combating corruption and upholding the rule of law.
Given these results, the Attorney General’s Office is expected to maintain the trust it has earned and continue to enhance its performance in handling strategic legal matters. Public support serves as a moral force that can drive the agency to persist in its pursuit of justice. Particularly in cases that have significant implications for state finances and the broader public interest.
The strong level of trust in the Attorney General’s Office reflects a renewed sense of hope among the Majority of Public regarding the legal system. While challenges remain, the positive steps already taken deserve appreciation and support from all sectors of society.
