In a statement made to reporters on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. He emphasized that he is still working and performing his duties as usual. “I’m still working as usual,” he confirmed.
Hasan also revealed that he recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Office of the Prime Minister of Australia. As part of this agreement, PCO will send five team members to Australia to learn about the communication practices in the Australian Prime Minister’s office. “We will send five people for training, and all costs will be covered by the Australian government. We have full support for this learning program,” Hasan explained.
Secretary to the Cabinet, Teddy Indra Wijaya, also addressed the rumors, affirming that Hasan has not resigned. Earlier, PDI Perjuangan politician Guntur Romli suggested that President Prabowo could use public opinion surveys as a basis for evaluating the performance of ministers and heads of institutions. “I think the president could review public satisfaction surveys and qualitative assessments of his cabinet. Some ministers appear to be unable to translate the president’s programs effectively and instead make blundering statements.” Guntur said on Friday, April 4, 2025.
One of the major issues that Guntur highlighted was the controversial statement made by Hasan Nasbi regarding a terror attack involving a pig’s head at the Tempo editorial office. Guntur criticized the lack of sensitivity in Hasan’s remarks, which he felt downplayed the severity of the threat against the press. “This should be grounds for dismissal. It normalizes terror against the media,” Guntur asserted. He stressed that the act of terror against journalists should never be trivialized or treated as a joke. “Only the victims of terror can joke about it. If others make light of it, they are normalizing the threat against the press,” he added.
Guntur’s criticism extended beyond the PCO to the performance of ministers in economic sectors. He noted that the worsening economic conditions recently should serve as a significant factor in evaluating the overall performance of the cabinet. “This is also related to the cabinet’s performance in the economic sector,” he said.
In particular, Guntur raised concerns about the position of Rosan Roeslani, the Minister for Investment and Refinement, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danantara. According to Guntur, holding both positions could create confusion for the public and the business community, as it may lead to conflicts of interest. “It’s like a football player also being the referee,” he remarked.
Despite his concerns, Guntur clarified that the reshuffling of cabinet members remains President Prabowo’s prerogative. He also emphasized that PDI Perjuangan would continue to maintain its position outside the government. “Reshuffling is the president’s right, and PDI Perjuangan will remain consistent in staying outside the government,” Guntur concluded.
As rumors continue to circulate about a possible reshuffle, it remains to be seen whether President Prabowo will take action based on the criticisms and assessments of his cabinet members. However, Hasan Nasbi’s denial of any resignation and his ongoing collaboration with Australia signify that he remains committed to his role in the PCO for the time being.
