Independent Report – On the occasion of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2025. Which falls on Friday, May 2, the Chairperson of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Hetifah Sjaifudian. Emphasized the importance of this moment as an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation in improving Indonesia’s education system. She highlighted the commitment of the DPR to fully carry out its duties in budgeting, oversight. And also legislation to contribute to achieving quality education for all Indonesian citizens.
Regarding the budgeting function, the DPR strives to ensure that the education budget is used effectively. The funds are allocated to programs and activities directly related to education. This effort aims to maximize the benefits of the educational budget.
For the oversight function, Commission X of the DPR monitors the implementation of education policies and programs. They ensure that these policies comply with applicable laws and regulations. They also focus on transparency and the effectiveness of education programs. Work meetings, field visits, the formation of working committees, and evaluations of educational programs and budgets serve as tools to assess the success of these initiatives.

In the legislative function, Commission X works with the government to consolidate various laws related to education. These include Law No. 20/2003 on the National Education System, Law No. 12/2012 on Higher Education, and Law No. 14/2005 on Teachers and Lecturers. The goal is to create a systematic and structured legal document through the codification of these laws.
Hetifah further explained that improving Indonesia’s education system is a continuous and challenging task. There are still many obstacles to overcome, such as disparities in access and education quality, unequal resource distribution, and issues of welfare and protection for education personnel. In addition, bullying, violence in educational institutions, low participation rates, high dropout rates, and the persistence of corrupt practices are issues that require joint efforts to resolve.
She emphasized that education is not just about producing individuals who are intellectually intelligent but also those with good character, morals, and social awareness. Education should shape a well-rounded individual, awaken their potential, and serve as a means of passing on values, culture, and knowledge from one generation to the next. Ultimately, education must transform the way people think and act, empowering individuals to improve their lives and contribute to society.
Hetifah reminded everyone that National Education Day is always relevant to remind us that education is not just about today, but also about the future. Therefore, it is hoped that National Education Day 2025 can mark the beginning of a stronger collaboration between the government, society, and all education stakeholders to build a better education system in Indonesia.
