Independent Report – National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has revealed that there are parties attempting to interfere with the police institution. This issue arises due to a product in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) currently under discussion in the House of Representatives (DPR).
Sigit made this statement during the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) at the Tribrata Hotel in South Jakarta on Friday, January 31, 2024.
Initially, Sigit emphasized that the police must improve their internal structure by developing new directorates and expanding work units. He stated that these structural improvements include creating new directorates and upgrading certain units from two-star to three-star levels.
He further expressed hope that police officers could fill various positions in several ministries outside the Bhayangkara structural framework. Given the large number of police personnel, he stressed the need for career development and expansion within work units.
Additionally, many officers have demonstrated outstanding achievements, and he believes their special skills should be properly accommodated. Recognizing that the number of personnel is vast, he pointed out that all officers possess commendable abilities, but the available positions within the structure remain limited. Therefore, the police force is seeking opportunities outside the internal structure, and gradually, these opportunities have been secured.

Sigit also expressed the need for police solidarity, as he identified certain groups trying to disrupt the Bhayangkara institution. One major concern is the Prolegnas product being discussed in the DPR, which he believes could interfere with police authority. Furthermore, he mentioned the presence of specific groups attempting to reposition the police force.
He cautioned that the situation requires careful attention because certain legislative products in the DPR could potentially undermine police authority if not handled properly. Similarly, efforts to reposition the police by various groups, even if not serious, still pose a concern.
National Police Chief Urges Quick Response to Public Complaints
General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has urged all police personnel, both at the central and regional levels, to respond swiftly to public complaints and issues. He warned against waiting for problems to go viral on social media before taking action.
He stressed the importance of increasing responsiveness to public concerns. Complaints should be addressed promptly, whether they are directed to the main officials at police headquarters or other relevant authorities. He encouraged officers to create official social media accounts to handle public complaints efficiently.
To ensure timely responses, Sigit instructed all police chiefs, unit heads, and regional officers to establish dedicated social media platforms. This approach allows immediate responses to incidents and ensures that complaints are addressed before they escalate into viral controversies. If a case arises, the official accounts should provide updates confirming that the issue has been acknowledged and is being followed up.
Sigit made it clear that handling complaints and cases should not be solely the responsibility of police headquarters. He called on regional police departments and local police stations to be actively involved in addressing public concerns.
Additionally, he urged personnel outside the police structure to contribute information regarding areas that need improvement. External perspectives, he noted, offer valuable insights into the performance of officers within the police force.
The police chief also addressed concerns over ethical and disciplinary violations among officers, which often become viral on social media. He emphasized that such misconduct must be prevented, and any violations should be met with swift and appropriate action. He highlighted the importance of quick responses and transparent communication with the public to demonstrate that the police are taking firm steps in handling such issues and not ignoring them.
By ensuring prompt action and accountability, the police force aims to maintain its credibility and public trust.
