Independent Report – Colorful traditional outfits from various regions in Indonesia enlivened the atmosphere of the Kartini Day celebration. The celebration held at the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) office on Monday, April 21, 2025. The smiles of happiness were evident on the faces of employees and beneficiaries (PM) who attended the event.
Fatma Saifullah Yusuf, the Advisor of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) at the Ministry of Social Affairs. Expressed that the 2025 Kartini Day celebration was not only about honoring and remembering the struggles of RA Kartini. But also about recognizing and celebrating elderly women who remain active and intelligent in their later years.
“These women, aged 70 and above, are still productive, strong, and smart. They are still able to engage in community activities. Some sell goods, some teach religious classes, and some even take on the role of MC, entertaining their grandchildren.” Fatma shared with a smile, accompanied by Intan Agus Jabo, the second advisor of DWP, and Vero Robben Rico, the chairperson of DWP.
A total of 20 elderly women received Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) in the form of grocery packages, nutritional supplements, personal hygiene kits, and traditional kebaya sets valued at IDR 1,535,000. They appeared stunning, wearing kebayas complemented with makeup and other accessories. Among them was Ni’mah, a 75-year-old woman from Matraman Dalam, Central Jakarta, who still actively participates in social activities such as religious study groups and exercise classes in her neighborhood. Ni’mah expressed her gratitude for the assistance she received from Kemensos. “Thank you so much, this is very beneficial for me. I’ve been made to look beautiful and even received a new outfit,” she said with a happy smile.

The event was further enlivened by a lively performance from elderly women from the Bahtera Senior School in North Bekasi. A group of 23 elderly women skillfully played the angklung, adding to the festive atmosphere of the celebration.
The festivities did not only involve elderly women, but also included all officials, civil servants (ASN), and non-civil servant staff (PPNPN). Since the morning, everyone was enthusiastic in participating in the various activities. Proudly displaying their traditional outfits on the red carpet, and taking part in the selection of the favorite traditional costume.
Moreover, the entire leadership and employees also participated in a choir competition among UKE I units at the Aneka Bhakti Building. The judges for this competition were Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) and Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono. Both judges toured the area, observing the performances of each team. Some teams sang with great enthusiasm, while others brought joy and laughter to all the attendees with their lively antics.
In addition to the choir competition, 25 representatives from all UKEs also joined in the fashion show. They looked elegant in their kebayas, showcasing the grace of Indonesian women through both traditional and modern kebaya styles. The judges for the fashion show were members of the Dharma Wanita organization.
Fatma hoped that the series of events celebrating Kartini Day in 2025 at Kemensos would bring happiness to everyone involved. Through this celebration, she also encouraged Indonesian women to continue striving for achievement. “Kartini brings a meaningful message; women can also achieve success,” she said.
The commemoration not only honored the legacy of RA Kartini but also highlighted the ongoing contributions of women in Indonesian society, especially the elderly women who continue to inspire with their resilience, dedication, and accomplishments. Kartini’s spirit of progress and empowerment for women remains alive and well in the hearts and actions of women across the nation.
